I built a computer with an AOPEN DVD-ROM. The CD portion worked fine However
when I loaded DVD's they wouldn't play. Message said I needed to load a new
decoder. Tried to load latest driver and install kept getting same error
message. Well the SW gave me one chance to select the right region (???). I
hit OK and it spit the DVD out and now the DVD will not work at all.

Anybody have any suggestions?

BTW I am running a

XP Home
ABIT MB
Intel 2.8C Processor
1 GB of Ram
60gb SATA HD
AOPen DVD-ROM
LG DVDwirter

What software program are you using to play your dvd's?
You need something like WinDVD or PowerDVD............

There's nothing wrong with your drive. You need decoder
software to play Content Scrambling System encoded DVD
movies...

You may already have it somewhere, many DVD drives and video
cards come bundled with such software like Intervideo's WinDVD
or CyberLink's PowerDVD.

Have you loaded a DVD playing software program like "WinDVD" or some such?
You have to, you know.

Thanks for the responses. I am using something called InterActual
Player(????) I have heard of WinDvd before.
The Drive is Dead however. I have rebooted uninstalled and reinstalled 3 or
4 times. The drive is dead (no lights on start up and had to force the draw
closed). So I need steps to help me bring it back up. Coincidentaly if I
disconnect it my DVD-Rw drive works however that will not read my XP disk.

When I go to device manager the drive doesn't show.

Any Suggestions

Thanks for the response.

If I had read the instructions I would probably know that (Typical Man). But
the Cd-ROM was working so I figured every thing was OK. Now I know better.
If I can get the drive running again I will install WinDVD. My main
objective is to get the job running again.

Hi Paul,
That sounds like you may have a hardware failure. If the drive light
doesn't even come on when the system is powered up. Even if you had not
installed any drivers or software the light should still briefly come on and
the tray should open and close properly as long as the drive is getting
power. Have you checked the drives connections, both power & IDE Cable? If
the connections are ok I would consider returning the drive for a
replacement.

Hope this helps,
Troy

Thanks Troy,

Bought a new drive and it works perfectly, so I am returning the Old Drive
to Newegg.
