Hi All. All 4 of my IDE channels are used by various
devices. In order to have 2 more IDE channels, I have
recently got a VIA VT6420 PCI card. I connected a
Goldstar DVD-ROM drive to the new additional channel. Now
the DVD-ROM drive is recognized as a CD-ROM drive. I can
not get it to work as a DVD-ROM drive. I am running XP on
an ASUS motherboard. Help will be greatly appreciated.
Thanks.

Hello

Why do you need that many devices, and why just
use the currecnt 4 that you have, or remove one device
and connect your dvd to it

Good question. I have recently assembled a powerful
machine and transferred all my devices from my old
computer except the motherboard, CPU and box. I have two
HDDs and one plextor inherited from the previous machine
that I do not want to just throw away. Consequently, when
I try to add new hardware the number of IDE channels is
not sufficient.
