I have seen someone posted this issue online. I got the same issue too
and I want to post my solution.
Problem,
After install the DVD region free I found my DVD rom became a
"removable disk" and it can neither be read nor opened. That did not
change even I uninstalled the region free, change the driver letter,
change the master slave settings on the drive...
Solution,
I figured out that the issue is the DVD region free enabled the UDMA
or DMA on my ATAPI controller for the DVD. After I turned it back to
the POI, the drive showed up corrrectly again. Go-Device Manager-IDE
ATA/ATAPI Controllers-Select the drive and change it back.
I have a PC running on VIA Chipset, that may be the problem only for
VIA.
