DVD roars on startup

When I turn my computer on the dvd drive light flashes and the computer makes a roaring sound. It continues to do this for quite a long time. If I wait long enough it sometimes makes it to the desk top but continues to make the roaring sound and the light on the dvd drive continues to flash. I have to hold in the button and start it again for it to boot up without stopping and roaring. This was also the case with my last HP and their solution was to totally reload the machine. That is and was not an option for me.

Shari, is there a disk in the dvd drive? Was the last HP dvd defective?

It happens with no disk in the drive. I didn't ever find out if the last one was defective as I returned the computer. I am not really sure if it is the dvd that is roaring. I am assuming so because the light flashes at the same time. It is not a typical sound that the dvd would make. I may just have to live with it. Is there a way I could set up the computer not to look at it when it boots up? I don't want to uninstall it as it just reinstalls each time the computer is started

Shari, I would go into the Bios and see if you can choose the hard drive
to be
first boot device. The manual should tell you how to enter the Bios.
Usually its holding or tapping the Delete button on
Startup.
