DVD Region fixed?! But I travel between the US and UK!

Hi,

I use my laptop on business, and although I reside in the
US I am often in the UK for months at a time. I watch
DVDs from both countries. I hadn't paid much attention to
it, but it seems that there is a limited number of times
the Region setting could be changed, as I can't change
back to UK settings now that I'm here and DVDs won't play
any more.

Surely there must be a fix for this - does anyone know
how? MS knowledge base # Q192103 ominously indicated that
it's permanently set now unless "reset by the
manufacturer". This seems ludicrous! The DVD's are
legitimate - why the hell should MS care about where I am
when I play it? I can't believe there isn't a solution to
this. There must be other folks who travel as I do on
business and have encountered the same thing...

The fix is to return the DVD drive to the manufacturers and have them reset
it. It's not anything to do with ANY version of Windows but a 'feature' of
the hardware of the DVD drive. Google for DVDGenie which is a shareware
program that lets you change regions as many times as you lilke.
