I am having a similar issue to the gentleman in thread 257081.
Rather than an upgrade my problem is from a fresh install, I have a Pioneer DVD drive and XP Pro, not up to SP2 yet (I'm waiting for the disc to arrive).
My problem produces the exact same message as in the other thread "Windows cannot read from this disk. The disk might be corrupted, or it could be using a format that is not compatible with Windows" I click OK and get taken straight to My computer.
This happens when I insert a CD (Audio and Data) DVD (data or Movie), it happens with DVD's that have worked in the same machine only a short time before.
I have another drive (Plextor CD RW) that works fine all the time.
The error appeared out of nowhere, It was working for a couple of weeks fine then poof. The last time this error occured I had used several different DVD's then after swapping one for another (that I knew worked as it had only been used a few minutes before) I got the error.
I have checked the drive in another computer it works fine, I have checked my jumper settings (both master on different channels) the cables and BIOS.
I seem to be able to delete the drive and secondary IDE channel from hardware settings, reboot, then again and it works, sometimes only for a few discs sometimes for a few days.
I'm assuming this is a software issue, and it seems pretty common, although of all the times I've seen it mentioned I've never really seen it resolved in any way that works for me.
The programs I have running at the time of the errors are: Creative volume control, Nero InCD, Taskman, AVG (up to date) Spybot S&D (Up to date), Kerio PF and the normal windows ones including Windows update alerting me about SP2 (I have dial up, so I have to wait for the CD)
If you would like any more information or images of the error message, my hardware setting or what not then let me know, I'll be checking back here fairly often.
Thanks for any advice you can give me.
Eric
