DVD-RAM problem concerning SATA ports

My LG Sata burner is installed in XP SP3 and all appears well both in device
manager and by using Nero Info. However although labelled in Explorer as a
DVD-RAM it does not show any files on any type of disk and cannot burn.

I think I recall reading that a SATA CD-ROM or DVD-RAM burner might have
problems with some SATA ports. My KN1 SLi Extreme MB has 4 standard SATA
ports with the burner connected to port 4. The MB also has two further SATA
ports 5 & 6 which I am using for SATA RAID 1.

Before I start swopping around the devices to different ports I would like
some feedback on whether this could be my DVD-RAM problem?

Samsung sata dvd-ram without any problems using nero to burn cd & dvd
under
winxp sp3 & also works well in linux. Do recall reading that using
m$ software for burning is chancey if it works at all.
I'm not even talking about burning. The unit will not show any files in
explorer.
