DVD RAM doesnt burn

I have an HP with DVD-RAM SONY AWG170A burner running under XP HOME sp2. the
DVD plays CDs and DVDs fine and burns CD with no problem but when I try to
create a data DVD, RecordNow gives me an error message and is unable to
create it.
I already update DVD drives and tried several type of media support
Any suggestion to keep the burner back alive?
 
Try going to Sony's website and look for Updated Firmware for your drive.
Does WinXP recognize your drive as
DvD ?
 
Updated firmware is already in place.
XP recognize the DVD as a Dvd burner until i insert a media in it, then XP
marks it as CD..
