This is prbly a redundent question but my drive doesn't work at all!! nothing
plays evan music CDs I try to go into my computer it shows the drive with a
red slash through it ?? Help it's driving me nuts, And please please keep it
simple in lamen terms so I can understand it :-) if you know what I mean lol

I am updating my question I found some answers on here about deleting upper
and lower filters, I did this and it didn't help lol XP is sounding better
every minute? still searching for answers
Thank you all

You're going to have to supply a lot more information. When you say it
doesn't work at all, do you really mean that? Can you open and close the
door? (Is it getting power?) Shut you computer off. Try pulling connection
wire and power wires off the drive and plugging them back in. Maybe one's
loose. Do you hear the disk turn when you insert a DVD? Does the drive light
work? When you said you can see the drive in My Computer and it had a line
through it, does it just say unknown device or give the make, model of drive?
What do you see in device manager under DVD drives? Anything marked yellow
or red? Do you see the name for the DVD burner? Is this an optical drive?
Parallel or serial? Brand? You don't really expect an answer when all you
say is that my drive isn't working do you?

By the way, you made the remark that XP is sounding better and better. Do I
assume your OS is Vista? You referred to looking into My Computer and seeing
a red slash through the drive icon. My Computer infers you're using XP.
It's just Computer in Vista. When you're giving out sparse discriptions
don't give misleading ones.

okok lol... Yes the power is on the door does open and close and yes I can
hear the disc running the light flashes for a while then stops and nothing
else happens. When I say my computer I just mean "computer" were it shows
available drives drive D circled in red with a slash device manager does show
the drive I don't think it's anything fancy just a reg. drive it's a stock
computer. Anything else you need to know? Thanks for assisting me

Michael
