I have a Dell Latitude D610 laptop and I just installed a used DVD-R drive
in it and was thinking, since the CD-R drives require device drivers,
doesn't the DVD-R drive require a device driver to make it recognize the
DVD-R blank disks and to burn DVD format files to a 4.7 GB blank disk? When
I access the device manager and look at the drive, it is reported to be a
"TSST corp DVD +-RW TS-L632H". Memory on the latitude: 1.73 GHz 2 GB RAM.

Any information would sure be of help. Thank you...

You don't need drivers for Windows to recognize the hardware. You need
third-party burning software to burn DVDs such as Roxio, Nero, or the free
CDXPro or ImgBurn.
