Both drives are not recognized in WinXP Home. Cables are
secure as is the power to the drives. The drives open and
close.

Had a tech over and he wants to wipe the sys clean and F
Disk and reload windows. IS that the solution or is there
a another better idea?

Please Help

Hi, Phil.

That so-called "tech" is still stuck in the MS-DOS/Win9x/ME mindset!!
FDISK, indeed! Don't let him near your computer unless he is willing to
learn something new! Tell him you are using Windows XP. If you did need to
start over, you'd do it by booting from the WinXP CD-ROM and letting Setup
partition and format your hard drive. You should never need FDISK again.

Tell us more about your computer. You can see it, we can't. What make and
model computer? Make and model drives? Internal or external? If external:
USB, serial, or firewire? Have they worked before and quit? Or just
installed and never worked yet? Stuff like that. Oh, and have you read the
manual?

Do those drives show up in Disk Management? At the Run prompt, type:
diskmgmt.msc Study the screen and its Help file for a while. By the time
the "tech" comes back, you'll know more about drives than he does. Show him
Disk Management and see what he says! ;^}

Then post back.

In addition to R.C. White's post in this thread, what software do you have
installed for your burner. Do you have separate CD-R and DVD-R burners?
DVD burners are not natively supported in XP meaning they require third
party software, your DVD-R should have come with such software.
