I am interested in copying videos to DVD. I am only familiar with copying
music downloads to CDRs. I have NTI-CD - Maker 6 Gold and DVDPowerXP. I have
CDR discs. Can they be used for videos and if not, what kind of DVD's should
I buy and what program(s) should I use?
Thanks in advance!

Are you sure your DVD/CD combo drive can burn DVDs? Some can view DVDs
and/or CDs but only burn CDs. (I am not familier with yours.)

If it can burn DVDs then you need DVD authoring software. Verify that what
you called NTI-CD Maker 6 Gold will or will not make DVDs too. My guess here
is that what you call DVDPowerXP is only a DVD player and not a burner.

I agree. I have done quite a bit of searching and research on DVD Authoring
programs as well as spent a ton of money finding one I really like but have
never heard of DVDPowerXP but it does sound like a player.
If your drive is a DVD Writer and not just a reader you do need DVD
Authoring software, there's a list of most of the popular packages on my
website in the DVD Programs section.

I have copied some digital pictures on DVD using Windows Movie Maker. The
DVD however will play on my computer but NOT ON MY DVD PLAYER. I am using +R
discs that are which my new DVD player will read. What can I do?

unless you have a windows media center PC Moviemaaker does not author DVD,
it simply creates a "computer" movie file. once you make your movie you
need to use a DVD authoring program to burn to DVD so it is encoded properly
and has the proper file structure for a DVD palyer to read.

I do have a Media Center PC with Windows XP. If I need an authoring program
how do I get it. As I say, I can the burned dvd will play on my computer.

How did you get your video to the DVD?
If you used the "Save to DVD" feature of WMM Media Edition then you should
have a playable DVD but if you just burned the AVI/WMV file to a DVD then it
will not play on your DVD player.
In the latter case you need to either use the "Burn to DVD" option of WMM
(Which I never recommend) or purchase a DVD Authoring program (Which is what
I always recommend).
As far as what program to use and how to get it that's up to you. There are
a lot of different programs available and to some extent you get what you
pay for. I have a list of some of the more popular ones on my website in the
"DVD Programs" section along with links for downloading the program or a
working trial version of the program. I recommend running some of the trial
versions to find the program you like best.
