I have a 700XL running Windows XP Home. I'm trying to back up my system to
DVD-R using Power Quest's Drive Image 7.0 which supports DVD.

It tells me "E:\ is not a writable CD or DVD Drive. The parameter is not
correct."

I've tried 2 different brands of DVDs. I can use Roxio EZ CD Creator 5 and
it writes successfully.

Any ideas?

Thanks, Allen

Wrong group, you said that, but it's cool. I'll give ya 2 cents, but that's
all I have. I had a similar problem. First I had to make sure I bought the
right TYPE of DVDs---which was DVD+R, (not -R). Then, Dell support led me to
updating Roxio's software from the Roxio.com website(I think that's it). If
you do update your Roxio software, be sure you download the proper version
Roxio you have, such as 5.3.2.. or whatever. After I d/l-ed the Roxio
update & installed it (& rebooted of course), everything worked fine, &
still does. I was hesitant with using Roxio, I guess b/c I liked using Real
Player or Windows Media Player to burn CD-Rs, & thought burning DVDs would
be just as easy, using those media players. Now, when I need to back up data
or burn a dvd, I can format the DVD with Roxio & use "project selector" from
the Roxio menu, & drag & drop files onto the DVD drive, & it's that easy for
me now.
Again, just 2 cents here.
