Currently i use media player classic to play my dvds, but have been having
problems with some DVDs navigating the menu properly. I sometimes it
display's strangely, other times it is difficult if not impossible to
actually select an option, other times it just freezes up completely.

Has anyone else had these problems with MPC? Is there a way to correct
these, and if not can anyone suggest alternative software to play normal
DVDs.

Thanks
Ben

Do you have all the latest and greatest codecs?

Have you tried VLC Media Player? http://www.videolan.org

Thanks that seems to work well, although not perfectly.
Some of the words on the menu don't show up all the time but it does select
properly and play nice and smoothly.

Thanks for your advice,
Ben
