DVD Player wont play DVDs

I only have once since Ive had my computer , played a DVD.. I want to not
only watch one but drop it in Movie Maker - it is not reading any DVDs I put
in the tray
Any help would be appreciated

Movie Maker will not recognize a DVD. You must
have decoding software installed on your computer
if you are planning to play DVDs. PowerDVD is
one option and InterVideo WinDVD Recorder is
another...I'm sure there are many more.

Here's some info on how the contents of a DVD
can be imported into Movie Maker.

Well.. my problem isn't the Movie Maker really... it's when I put a DVD in the tray - the green light is flashing like its reading the disc but doesnt do anyting. When I use windows explorer to view the file(s) - it asks me to insert disc but the disc is in there. It wont read audio CDs nor DVD discs - its liek I lost the driver or something but the device manager says its working properly
