When windows media player upgraded to v 10 it stopped playing DVD disks.
Error message says no codex is loaded or availible. Is there a free one that
comes with the version 10 upgrade? Can version 10 be removed and ver. 9
reinstalled with the proper codex?

Thanks for any help.

If you reinstall the other software you have that plays DVD, it should
replace the codec that you had that was working before.

Actually there are free mpeg2 codecs that you can use with WMP10. The names
escapes me but try and search on google.

Due to the licensing issues involved (reference the MPEG-LA), I would be
highly extremely suspicious of any "free" decoders unless they are trial
decoders, and in that case you probably don't want them since trial/expired
decoders will just get in your way in the end. =\

Perhaps, personally I would be far more suspiscious of any software from any
company that has any interest in DRM right now(i.e. Sony). All that I know
is I have been using a free codec on one of my machines for 3 months without
problem.
