Dear Anyone

I am having a lot of dramas trying to run a DVD player on
my new PC and the company from which I purchased the
machine are being very elusive, please help.
I have a P4S800-MX motherboard with 3GHz Inetl P4
processor and 512 Mb RAM. Using XP OS and reinstalling
appears to fix the problem for a short while only, I
cannot install XP from scratch as I get a blue screen
error message.
My DVD player is an Optorite DD0401 re-writer and the DVD
software being used is Power DVD V5.

The SiS info is as follows:
Integrated Graphic Processor: M661FX/M661MX
AGP: SiS Acceleration Graphic Port
IDE: SiS IDE Controller
USB:USB 1.1 x 2
USB: USB 2.0
Audio: SiS7012 Audio Controller
LAN: SiS900 Fast Ethernet Controller

The problem is this:
The DVD player works okay for any cd and will copy quite
merrily. As soon as I put a DVD in even without running
Power DVD program, then the drive locks out and the drive
letter diappears from the machine. I cannot then access
the drive and have to switch off the PC and then switch
on again in order to extract the disk and continue.

Please help, I have tried the online page but much of the
info would have to be read from installed parts and I
dont really want to open my machine.

Many thanks

Is this an Asus PC you made up Mark??

Or was it already made up, as a system??
when you purchased it?

It doesn't sound like a known brand someone
would buy as a system, like HP, or Compaq.

What does the blue screen say exactly? And how
are you trying to reinstall XP? If you did make it
yourself, is the DVD set as master, if its the only
cd/dvd in the case? If it is a system, (you didnt
make it up), and it is still under guarantee/warranty, I would take it back
and tell them to replace the whole thing.

Thanks for the reply Pau
I am trying to install XP booting from the XP CD, reinstalling XP works okay but not the full install, I will have to try again to write down exactly what the blue screen says but I think it was something to do with a setup file, possibly dll. I purchased the system complete as is, online, but the company are very slow in replying to emails and voicemail messages. I assume the drive to be master as the cd's work okay, it is just a DVD problem. The company is teamclockwork.com so I would advise others to avoid when it comes to a poor support response

Hmm k Mark. So you've gone into the BIOS
and changed the bootdisk to CD right??

Then chucked the XP CD in and booted from
there? From bootup, and not from within Windows?

Yup it SHOULD work if PowerDVD is installed
as XP needs something like that to play DVD's.

You could try going to the Optorite site to
see if there's an update for the burner, and
also to the Asus site, to get a BIOS update.
(If the motherboard is an ASUS mobo).

Let me know how you go.

I have had a very similar problem with teamclockwork. The computer
rebooted when I tried to play a DVD. Fortunately I discovered this
within an hour of opening the box, so I packed it up and got the goods
returned for repair.

Since then, however, communication has been virtually non-existant,
dispite repeated emails & calls. The (hopefully fixed) PC was
delivered back to me this morning and I'm yet to test it.

Mark, if you're still following this thread, I'd like to get in touch
so we can share our experience of teamclockwork. It might be useful
if either of us experience continued problems. You can email me at
the above address for a limited period which will allow us to swap
real addresses.

Thanks,
Stephen.
