We have tried every type of disc from DVD-R, DVD+R, CD-r, CD-RW and our Sony
player will not recognize the discs. We have tried the recommended format,
the AVI format and several of the optional formats. The player will not see
the disc or says the disc is dirty. Any help is greatly appreciated.

Did you actually create a *video* DVD or just
a simple Data DVD. And...simple fact is...some
DVD players will not play home made DVDs.

Maybe the following links will offer some ideas:

How are you going about creating the DVD?

If using a CDR/RW you need to use a DVD Authoring program to create a VCD.
If using a DVD and you have the "Save to DVD" option on your Movie Maker
then that should work but if you use a DVD with the "Save to CD" option that
will NOT work as Movie Maker will not recognize the DVD as a writeable disk
since it is looking for a CDR. In that case you again need a DVD Authoring
program to create the DVD. For information about authoring programs see the
"DVD Creation" section of my website.
