DVD Playback?

I have read through many of these posts and figured out most of the issues
I'm having, but I'm now stuck and in need of help. I'm creating an 11
minute slideshow in Movie Maker that I need saved on a DVD. I have been
using Sonic to burn this onto DVD. I saved it as a dv-avi file and was able
to burn it to a DVD+R disc using Sonic. I can get it to playback using my
home and work PC, but it's not working on my DVD Player. I've tried other
burned DVD's (formats DVD-R and DVD+R) and they both play on my DVD player.
Any idea as to why I can't playback on my DVD player would be helpful.

If you have played other DVD+/-R on your home player then your problem might
be the disks you are using. If you know which other burned disks (brand)
played on your home player, try to get a blank one of those to put your
slideshow on.

I have one particular player that will not play short movies. if the data
on the dvd is small (say around 5-6 minutes) the player just wont recognize
the disk and start. if I take the same dvd layout and add a second longer
clip (just to add data to the disk) the player plays both clips just fine?
maybe something like that is your issue ??

Thanks for the suggestions. I actually got the same brand that worked on my
DVD player last night and tried it. I realized when I burned the discs, I
was burning a "data disc" in Sonic. I'm assuming that's why it played on my
PC and not my DVD player. I'm attempting to burn it correctly in Sonic now,
but running into other issues. It's telling me to insert a blank or writable
disc in the drive (disc is already loaded). This is probably something
obvious I can figure out myself so I'll continue to work on it, but if anyone
knows why this is happening, fill me in. Also, it may not be something
suitable for this particular newsgroup. I'm new to the movie maker, sonic,
burning DVD's, newsgroup process, but appreciate your replies and past
strings!

Yes burning as a "Data" disk is exactly why it wouldn't play. All that does
is to burn the actual AVI file to a disk instead of converting it and
creating a DVD.
Most often when you get the message to insert a blank disc it is because the
disc currently in the drive is used or damaged. This isn't always the case
however sometimes the disc will work just fine the next time you try to use
it so just put in a different disc and go from there.
