When I play DVDs, I get video but no audio.

This only started happening recently - previously DVDs were fine on my
laptop.

Sound is working fine on my machine - audio CDs play, mp3 files play,
system sounds are all working.

The DVD was played using Real Player 10.5

I have also noticed that an avi file I was playing with Windows Media
player has the same problem - I see the picture, but no sound.

As I mentioned, this started happening all of a sudden. Unsure what I
did to break it, but at one point the audio simply wasn't working when
I put in a DVD. As best as I can remember it, I was watching a DVD
(with audio), then closed the laptop to put it in standby (which I had
done before). After bringing the computer out of standby, the audio was
no longer working.

Specs:

Windows 2000, SP4
IBM Thinkpad
Hitachi DVD-ROM GD-S200

one suggestion was that I had to reinstall the codec, ubt to be honest,
I do not know how to go about doing that.

Thanks for any help!

Hi,

Thank you for the suggestion - but I am not sure whta I am supposed to
do with the AC3 filter after I download it?
