I would like to dump some .avi files on my computer to DVD for viewing on a
DVD player (DVD player is a Sony not in a PC). Which media should I
purchase? +R or -R

TIA

As a side note to this is there a way to copy protect the DVD I am going to
make such that nobody else can copy it to another DVD and/or VHS tape?

The media (+/- R) you choose depends on what your player
will support. Some support +, some -, some both.

I was directed to this site to get info on media.

By finding what media is on sale during any given week,
you can see what the pros and cons are for that particular
brand (users comments) before you buy.

I bought Comp USA brand (-R) for my LITE-ON burner and the
first disc burned fine. I've also used Sony (+R) for quite
a few.

As already said check which your player supports.
I find Ritek G04 excellent.
You will also need some dvd authoring software, just copying the files will
not work with a stand alone dvd player.
Copy protection can be put on, but is probably out of reach financially,
unless you are going to make lots, as it will have to be done at a
duplication house.
