I built my unit recently. Had my first oppotunity to
play a dvd. Had lockup problems so thought new software
would help. Purchased windvd platinum but no luck.

Here's the problem. When I place a dvd into the dvd tray
the windvd player launches. My computer HD light blinks
a few times then stays lit. The dvd player never begins
to spin. When I go into My Computer to view the cd and
dvd icons they are gone. When I reboot both are back. I
have no problems playing games using the dvd player but
getting frustrated with the dvd. Any suggestions?

What else have you got in your
system Dan? Besides the DVD?

And what ide connection is it on?

Is it on the secondary ide connection, as
a master? or slave? It might be something
to do with the way youve set it up
somewhere.

Its an AMD 2400+ w/ 512 RAM. 80 g hard drive. Have a CD-
RW and the DVD. I'm not sure if it's master or slave.
Presume it's slave as it's drive letter is higher? ATI
video and Audigy sound.

Somethings off. The cd's play just fine.

Thanks for your attention. Any help is appreciated

Ah, just noticed you have an ATI
card. What version of DirectX have you
got? I've read there have been a few issues
with ATI cards and DX 9 I think. Update
to 9.0b.....

Thanks Paul,

Got it working. Ended up uninstalling Media Player, Nero
6 and WinDVD and then did the registry clear suggested on
another post. Reloaded WinDVD and tried it out. Works
fine. Then loaded Nero again leaving off all but the
essentials. Still good. Don't think I'll put Media
player back on or if so Media 9.

I never upgraded to Direct 9 since I had heard of a few
issues and you're right with the IDE connection. I read
the it's best to keep them both on the secondary IDE.
Thanks again for your help.
