DVD libraries

This may be a stupid question but I don't want to do anything illegal. Is it
possible to create a video library to store your purchased dvds on a
harddrive to watch via media centre.
 
yes, it is, though realize you will need special software and a LOT of hard
drive space.
 
Thanks. I've seen a 1000gb hard drive advertised but did not want to
purchase it if I wasn't going to be able to store my dvds on it. Any idea
what the special software is called and where I can buy it?
