Can anyone recommend an affordable label making software for DVD's?

More importantely does putting a label on the disk effect the play. I have
read reviews of the software where some people say it did.

Thanks

Many discs with labels on them result in physical interference when I try to
play them on my laptop.... apparently the clearances are tighter than on my
desktops.

I purchased a printer last week to print right onto the discs... no label.

DVD rotational speeds are fairly high. If not centered well, the label can
cause the disc to wobble. This can lead to tracking errors. There are also
reports of the adhesive damaging the media, but I would not think a main
tier label would do that. I know some folks that say they do not have
issues, but they are not high volume makers either.

From an e-tailer, printable discs are about 10-25 cents (USD) more
expensive. Not sure how the labels come out per disc. The price points may
make them about the same price (excluding printer.)

Strange when you consider you have in all this time only made 25
dvd's....perhaps you have a big project coming up.

The price I have seen for a dedicated DVD Label printer was something like
US $1,200 and that was a cheap one...there are some real cheap black and
white thermal printers with dodgy graphics...but to use a thermal printer
on a DVD is not a very good idea...I'm told that the are not selling very
well....and there is that photo printer with the UK invented print head
"Stylus" it has a card tray that will take a dvd through. Epson Stylus
machines are OK so long as you use them on a frequent basis...I know of two
people plus myself who discovered that because the machine was not used on
a regular basis the head gums up. All three machines ended up in the
trash....One friend sent his back for repair...the quote he got was the
same as the cost of a brand new machine

Stick on labels....tried them...if they are not perfectly centered it ruins
the disk and they do not always remain "stuck".

I use a washable felt tip pen on my DVD RW disks and lens cleaner to wipe
it off and permanent felt tip pens on the write once disks....If I can't
justify having the best...I might as well use the easiest (non acetate Nail
varnish remover removes the permanent felt tip and does a good job of
cleaning the data side of a disk as well.....as per the Karate Kid ... Wipe
On...Wipe Off

Erasable markers are a strategy for removing permanent markers (aka Sharpe)
from white boards. They may also do so on DVD/CD surfaces without damage,
but I have never seen it documented nor tried it.

An OT footnote on Sharpe's. Sharpe has their own webpage and it does
include a FAQ with means of removing Sharpe from other materials. If you
have Sharpe where you should not, check out their website. The Sharpe
remover I had to get was through an art supply company on the web and was
about $16USD a bottle. BUT, $16 is cheaper than replacing the carpet (1 red
Sharpe, 1 mushroom carpet, 1 2 year old who notices the Sharpe, 1 30 second
period of the baby sitter getting him a drink in the kitchen)
