I have a newly built Pentium 4 2.6 800MHz computer with 512 mb RAM PC2100
and Intel motherboard D865GBF FSB 800mhz (Onboard Intel Extreme Video - BIOS
shows 64mb allocated to video and Onboard SoundMax Audio). When a DVD is
played in the DVD Rom it looks as if the odd frame is being missed. CD Music
also seems to pop and crack. I have tried analogue sound only and switched
error correction on and off but no difference.

I have the updated audio and video drivers. Music plays fine when played
directly from hard disc.

Any help would be appreciated.

You might want to allocate more memory to the video and audio if possible.
64 megs is not a lot when both sound and video are being used at the same
time when you are playing a DVD. The popping and cracking is a known issue
with that sound chipset but I thought that the later drivers fixed it. If
you have an AGP slot, I might think about getting a reasonably priced AGP
video card with 64 or more megs of memory. ATI and NVidia both have cards
in the -$100.00 range that will perform much better than the onboard
video. You might double check the Intel site and see if there are some
later drivers for the Soundmax chipset that you may have missed.
