Hi all

When I put either a dvdrom or a dvd film into my dvdrive, the whole system
grinds to a halt, and the modem also becomes unusable. The mouse pointer is
incredibly jerky.

The dvdrom works fine with cdroms, and music cds. Now since rebuild I have
installed MS works 2004 from the dvd and it works fine. So something has
gone wrong since. I have had the blaster virus which i have removed
successfully. I have checked for the mydoom virus which is clear.

Is this a firmware problem? The dvdrom is a matshita sr-8585f. I am using
win xp home. Mobo is a abit kd7 & athlon 2000xp. If it is firmware how do I
update??

Any thoughts? Thanks in advance

Basil

You could always check Matsushita for a firmware update but I believe your
problem is software related. Are you able to play mp2 files of video that
are on your hard drive? If you have no mpg movies then go to

http://www.archive.org/movies/searc...submit=yes&collection=prelinger&searchAll=yes

and choose a film, any film that you might watch in either Real Player or
Quicktime. You could even download one of the shorter mpg2 movies, but that
will take you quite awhile with a modem.

If you have the same problem playing one of the movies then it's probably a
software issue rather than firmware.

If not then try a substitution for the DVD drive if you can to see if the
drive in itself is the culprit.

Good luck.
