There are technical differences between the two, and people still argue over
which format is better. Truth is, it's really about marketing, and who will
control the technology for recording DVDs. DVD-R/W was created by Panasonic
(or was it Pioneer) and its allies, whereas DVD+R/W was created by Philips
and its allies. If you remember the VHS vs. Beta wars, its a similar thing.

Most PC DVD Burners now are able to record to both so it shouldn't be an
issue if you are going to buy a new burner. My TDK burns DVD+RW/R and
DVD-RW/R. I don't see any difference between them. If you are thinking about
buying a DVD Burner for your TV, there is a difference between manufacturers.
I bought a Go Video DVD Recorder and the discs only seem to work in the
recorder. I bought a Go Video DVD - VHS player at the same to time and the
DVD's burned in the recorder do not play properly in the player. Both are
still great for the price. $220 for both. I just hope that the burned DVDs
will play in future players or recorders. Otherwise all my discs will be
worthless.
