Hi,

I have a NEC ND-3550A DVD driver that has recently being "on strike" for
certain DVDs I tried to play on it. The DVDs were actually created using the
driver itself, which worries me a bit as I have quite a few...

You pop the DVD into the driver, it tries to read it for a while and then
just changes the driver icon and when you double-click it, it's as if the DVD
had no contents.

Does anyone know of any reason why it would do that or could like point me
in some direction using Google or something?

Much appreciated! As always...

Regards!

Hi Neil,

Some discs that don't play in mine play in other drives but the thing is
that some DVDs do play fine. It's not like not working at all. Some DVDs,
which I burned myself & worked well in the past, just don't work anymore.

Is there a way to fix this software-wise? firmware or some Control Panel feat?

Thanks!!!!!!

You can try to use a DVD lens cleaner. If this does not help the
drive, then your drive is failing and you need to consider replacing
it.

It sounds like the laser is on its way out. This is the most common failure
scenario of DVD writers.

Hi smlunatick

I did what u told me & it's working again. Got the Scotch dvd lens cleaner,
ran it once & the same DVD that wasn't being read is now working as usual.
Many many thanks for ur great help. Thank u ever so much.
