Hello:

My DVD Drive can be used to read content from DVDs.
However if I try to burn any DVDs then the process no longer goes through
successfully.

* What can I do to try to find out the reason for this problem ?
* Is there some troubleshooting tool that I can use to determine whether
my unit is physically damaged ?

Thanks.

What are you using? If you are not using a 3rd party program, then
try downloading something like CDBurnerXP. It writes to DVD's as well
as CD's.

What are the errors when you write?

Hello Mine has tottally been disable, its not among the hardware found among
other drives. what can be done? please.
Ruben.

You can no longer access the CD drive or the DVD drive:
or you get an error code 31
See: http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;EN-US;314060
(Remove Upper and Lower filters)

CD-R drive or CD-RW drive is not recognized as a recordable device

XP does not recognize a DVD-RW disc

Also:
Right click on the My Computer Icon on your desktop
and select Manage and select: Device Manager
(Or: Go to Start, then select 'Run' and in the Open field enter: devmgmt.msc
then click on the OK button)

After the Device Manager window opens, click the "+" to expand the
DVD/CD-Rom drives option.
Next, right-click on the CD/DVD Drive(s) you are having problems with
and select: Uninstall.
You may be prompted to reboot your computer, do not reboot!
Instead shutdown the PC and remove the cable to the CD/DVD
drive or drives. Now with the drives disconnected, boot the PC.
Check that the CD/DVD devices are no longer listed in
Device Manager. Now power down the PC, reconnect your
CD/DVD drivers. Windows should discover the devices and
reinstall the drivers.

What do you mean by this? Does this mean it worked at one time, and
now it does not?

In the control panel, check out the device if there is any indicated
problem. The DVD driver may be corrupted, in that case, reinstall
it. Do a cold boot (not restart) after the driver install to make
sure the DVD power is completely cleared out. Burners are cheap, so
consider replacement.
