dvd drive won't refresh

I've got an interesting problem I've not been able to solve. I've got a dvd
drive and a cd-rw drive in an XP professional computer on the secondary ide
channel, dvd primary, cd-rw secondary. When I first insert a disk in the dvd
drive it reads it fine. When I try to insert another disk in the drive it
reads the contents of the first disk and not the second one. I cannot
refresh nor can I close windows explorer and restart. In both instances I
still read the contents of the first disk that was inserted. I thought I had
a problem with the drive and replaced it. I didn't solve anything except
spend money for a drive I didn't need apparently.

It seems as if there is some sort of cache that is reading the disk and is
not being purged when I insert another disk. Has anyone had a similar
problem or can they point me in the right direction to solve this. It is
extremely annoying especially when trying to install software that has more
than one disk. Insertion of the second disk always fails as the system sees
only what the first disk contents were.

I sure would like some comments on this. Thanks

I've seen the same problem with my DVD drive, I never
tried to fix it because after a minute it would refresh to
the correct dvd disc.
