DVD Drive will not work

My DVD-R Drive is a UJ-820S drive and it will not work. The drive does not
register on My Computer and will not read any kind of disk. I have tried to
uninstall and re-install the drive but that did not help. I did not do
anything diferent to the computer, but the drive just stoped working.

Seen in the BIOS?
Jumpers set correctly on it?
Work in another computer?
Another drive work if put on the same cable?
 
Hi Elena - Try this:

See here: http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;[LN];270008 It
may not sound like it applies but take the steps outlined there to delete
the Upper and Lower Filters.

You can also use this reg file to handle these deletes (it takes care of
deleting some other things which can cause problems as well):
http://www.aumha.org/downloads/cdgone.zip This is
pretty much the "standard" fix for this "Disappearing CD" type of issue.
Backup first so that
you can recover if there are problems (there aren't usually, BTW).

It's recommended by Compaq/HP that you run FilterFixer also when this occurs
to recreate the correct entries, here:

Jim I am also having the same trouble with my D drive which is the CD Rom
drive. I will try your suggestions and let you know how i come out. Thanks
