I used to be able to read DVDs, but out of a sudden I
realize it can't anymore. I checked out the properties,
and realize that windows is treating it as a CD-rom drive.
Anyone knows how to solve it? Thanks. I'm using Win XP Pro

We can play/read but are unable to write to our DVD.
Specifically a NEC 1100A DVD R/+RW with CD R/+RW combi
drive. XP Home. Ran a XP Repair and in the process
received the following error message. Perhaps you could
shed some light?

Device Installation Error
Windows could not load the installer for the
TapeController, contact your hardware vendor.

Note - we've spend hours with Dell on the phone and have
even changed the hardware twice. It must be software
related!
