DVD drive recognized as CD drive only

Any suggestions on how to get XP to recognize my DVD drive as such. It only
sees it as CD drive and will not allow me to use blank DVD media as a result,
saying it is full or incompatible. The drive does, however, allow me to
access DVD discs. I find that curious.
This same drive works fine when booted into Vista. Need XP due to
driver/software issues with ATI HD card video capture and Vista. So, any
suggestions?
Thanks in advance,
Miles

Hello,

XP does not support native DVD burning. That means you need to use a third
party utility to burn to DVD-R or DVD-RW

CDBurnerXP is a popular free burning software

More free burning software can be found here

It is normal for XP to recognize DVD drives as simply 'CD Drive'

The drive could be bad.

Thanks, guys. I do have one installed but haven't tried burning from it. I
appreciate the info.

Be leery of advice from a SPAMMER who has a different agenda than the
pretense of giving help. This one does knows how to put his spam in a
signature but refuses to do so because some newsreaders strip off the
signature. He wants to ensure you see his spam.

But hasn't he posted any useful advice, though? (I haven't been following
all his posts, but thought he had in some instances).

Vanguard is just a pretentious, bitter old hooplehead. He's showing it more
and more everyday with his vicious bile.
