Hi, i have a pioneer 16x slot dvd drive, today
after "ripping" some audio cds, i put in starcraft
broodwar to play, and there was no response as if there
were no disc in the drive, but if i would go into "my
computer" and right click onto the dvd-rom, it would lock
up the system. But if i stick an audio cd in and go into
my computer, i can play the cd in windows media player.
I've tried inserting several data cds, all of them do the
same thing, i've tried cd-r copies and original copies,
same thing. I only noticed this after i did several cd
rips with a program called EAC(EXACT AUDIO COPY), this
program has a special way of extracting the audio b/c
it'll read each song twice, and if it notices any
differences in any part of a song it reads it again to
determine which part is "true" which results in a Exact
Audio Copy. I dont think that would harm my drive,
because i let it cool AT LEAST 15min between every rip. I
uninstalled the drive from the device manager and
reinstalled it. Same results. If anyone has any ideas or
if you think the drive is shot (like i do), let me know,
i would greatly appreciate it, right now i'm going to
test a dvd. Thanks a lot,
Justin
