DVD Drive Opening Sparodically

Hi,

Yesterday, my DVD Drive kept on opening and closing sparodically (every
couple of seconds or so). Very irritating >:o)

Any ideas on what might be causing this?

There are various malware (virus) that causes this behavour.
Remote 'open the coffee cup holder'.
So a virus and spyware test would be the first thing to do.

I agree, but have also come across cases where this is a symptom of a
failing drive.

Check there is nothing caught in the drive, or under the tray. If it can't
shut properly, it will re-open.
 
With the power shutted off, open your case and remove the ide cable from the
drive (leave the power connector in place). Then power up the computer. If
the problems reappears, you can be shure that the drive itself do have a
problem.
