I have two DVD RW installed and one of them connected to the slave
channel some time appear or is not always shown on Windows Explorer or
Disk Management. This problem does not happen on WXP. How can this be
solved?

Hi,

Shut down, reseat the cabling. Then startup and load Safe mode. Open Device
Manager and remove (uninstall) the drive, then restart normally.

I restarted the PC this morning and found the problem DVD Drive(one of
the two DVD RW drives) disappeared again. Further assistance is appreciated.

I would check the POST and if the drive is missing there, I would check the
power plugs, from the DVD all the way back to the power supply. Especially
if you have used splitters they may need reseating. I have also found many
splitters to be of poor quality and are hard to get properly seated so they
can be erratic especially with moist air. Try a different power cable to
the drive (swap with the one that is working and see if that helps). A new
data cable may also be necessary if you are getting power to the drive
during POST but not showing up in the system.

Rick:
The jumper must be ok because the drive was installed quite some time
ago and it has been working fine since on Windows XP or Windows 2000.
I am currently on the road and will double check it when I will be back
home in a week.

The POST appears ok bcause the screen display during boot up shows that
the both DVD drives are recognized.

I've found the same issue with a CD burner. I have a DVD Burner and CD
Burner. When I first installed VISTA, no problemo. Now I can only see the
DVD. CD is off to Never Never Land.

I'd like to see this resolved, but will say in the mean time, At least it's
the CD burner that's missing and not the DVD

I am back home from trip and have checked the jumpers. There does not
seem to be nothing wrong about them. There are Pioneer DVD RW and
Matsushita DVD RW(Hammer), and the Pioneer is jumpered to be the slave
and the Matsushita is jumpered to be the master. BIOS recognized both of
them correctely.

Then I changed the jumpers so that their role were rversed with each
other: Pioneer beccame the master and the Matsushita became the slave.
The result is the same except the one which is not recognized by the OS
is switched from Matsushita to Pioneer.
