Dvd drive not working...

blackrose_the_ferret

my dvd drive will not work. the light flashes but i cant hear it load up, and
when i go on my computer there is no D. drive. I have been on device manager
and this is what it says

" Sussesfully loaded the device driver for this hardware but cannot find
the hardware device. (code 41)"

i have tryed everything possible. i just dont know what else to do. It was
working fine before christmas havn't done anything to it. Can anyone help??
 
Since when did ms start giving out that guided help thing?

I have never seen it before...
 
Oooops. Sorry I misunderstood. It has been a while now and I do not exactly know
when they started it
 
The device manager says it is working but after the light comes on, nothing
happens

Sometimes, the optical drive can disappear when the upper/lower device
filter "disappear" or gets corrupted in the registry. There has been
several posts, in this newsgroup, on how to fix this.
