Hi all,
have read other posts re this issue and have tried remedys such as
CDGone.Reg and Kelly's vb script with no success.
My problem is this: Windows XP shows the DVD drive in MyComputer but when
you dbl-click on the icon it asks you to insert a disk.
Here is what I have done so far:
Have removed any program that creates a phantom dvd drive such as Alcohol
and DVD Daemon. - rebooted pc.
in Device Manager I have uninstalled the SCSI and Raid Controllers
(AS347SCSI SCSI Controller). the DVD Drive Icon in My Computer Disappears.
then I tell device Manager to detect new hardware and the icon comes back but
there is no change.
Have taken XP back to a previous restore point before this problem started.
No change.
Have re-installed Windows XP using the original DVD with SP2 in THE DVD
drive . For this I used the Repair option. XP went through the motions
without a hitch. When it rebooted upon completion of the install the DVD
drive did not work.
Bios recognises the DVD drive and I can boot from it at startup.
The DVD Drive is an NEC and to my knowledge relies on standard XP drivers.
failing a complete re-install can anyone suggest another option?
Kind Regards,
John Anderson.
