Hi

Only bought a new laptop two days ago. I found no problems on the first day,
but now whenever i put in a disk (whether it be a game, cd etc) the computer
doesn't recognise it's there, or even recognise the dvd drive at all!

any ideas of what i can do?

thanks

Can you hear the drive spin up? What does Device Manager show? What happens
when you try to access the drive in explorer?

One thing you can do is test the drive with a bootable CD. If that works, then at
least you know it isn't the drive itself. (note you may have to change the device
boot order in the BIOS).

If it's a hardware problem, I'd say return it. Electronic components are known to have a
higher percentage fail rate at the beginning and end of their life cycles.
