My Sony DVD drive doesn't show up in any of the usual Windows
locations, ie. My Computer, Device Manager, etc., but does show in
the BIOS of my P4C800-E Deluxe as Secondary Slave. Any ideas why?

Thanks for any help.

windows 'lost driver' although it is probably there...just go to add new
hardware=>yes the device is connected=>then just double click the dvd
burner...it should work...if this doesnt work, download the drivers or
install with add new hardware wizard

Well, your suggestion worked, kind of, but it did point out the
problem. Thanks. I tried Add new hardware and the drive was found,
but only 'till I rebooted. Then it was lost again. So I took the
damn thing apart and disconnected the drive, restarted, shut down,
reconnected the drive, restarted and now it seems to be working fine.
I really didn't want to open the box as it's pretty well buried but
that's my fault.

Thanks for your help.

Search for "noide" (one word, not two) in windows registry, then delete that
key and then reboot the computer. It work often.
