dvd drive giving me a headache

my dvd drive doesn't read cds or cdroms anymore but reads any dvd fine. what
can i do to fix problem and has anyone else had this problem. my hardware is
only a year old so it cant be ready for the graveyard yet. tried trouble
shooting guide but no info on this. help.

The problem is symptomatic of a failed laser for CD's. Make one
attempt at cleaning the lens. If the drive still fails to read CD's,
then it has failed. And it is not an unusual failure.
