DVD drive does not know CD

Just bought this SAMSUNG writemaster DVD writer. I plays DVD's . On the
hardware list it shows itself as two drives DVD and CD-RW. But it is
not working with any CD whether data or media. Plz anyone can give
advice ?? thanks for help...Sam, Toronto
 
A DVD drive has two lasers, one for the DVD side and one for the CD side,
it's possible the CD side one isn't working. Take it back and get a
replacement. I presume it's working fine with DVDs?
