My DVD/CD-Rom drives keeps getting disabled. The ready light just blinks all
the time. Even after rebooting. Is there a way to reset the drives without
rebooting ?

Thanks
Dick

This is very doubtfully a virus relatesd problem.

You may have a failing drive.

Strange thing is, I have seen 3 systems with DVD problems in the last
2 weeks. One of them was a laptop, where flashing the bios worked, the
other 2 were newish PC's, both of which kept continuously ejecting the
tray. I ran a load of AV and spyware progs, and found nothing. Booted
from Ubuntu Live CD and still had the same problem. It struck me as a
huge coinkidink that there were 3 with DVD problems in that shor
period. Is it possible that there is something out there causing this,
or is it just a coincidence?

I have to shutoff the entire system then reboot to clear it. Even then it
works only 3 out of 10 times. I'm suspect something is disabling the drives
in the background. I can't find any virus that's causing the problem. Is
there a way to enable the drives with a system setting?

Thanks

Cut and paste everything between the lines and paste it into notepad. Save
the file as cdfix.reg and save it to the desktop. make sure you change the
save as type.... drop down box to all files. Once saved double click on the
file to merge it into the registry. Reboot.
