If I replace a drive in my Dell computer should there be any issues?
I bought a DVDRW burner to replace the DVD drive that came with my dell. I
needed it to burn to disk the video clips from my new camera. It came with
the NERO program. After using it about twice in a week, it just quit - says
"insert disk" and of course there is a disk in it. Thought maybe with the
way I am learning Dell does some things there may have been an issue with
that.
PS. Two weeks ago - 80+ hours ago, I STARTED having this issue.
This is my second computer in about 8 years so I am not completely stupid
about computers, but this is my first experience with video. I knew I would
have to get a DVD burner as I did not think at the time my CD burner would
burn Video (I was wrong about that) So I went on eBay and bought one,
exchanged the DVD player and inserted the disk - NERO.
After burning a couple disk my drive started saying "NO DISK INSERTED",
so I got on HERE for help.
It was suggested I un-install the Nero as their may be conflicts with
movie maker - (had this Dell for over two years and never even knew I had a
movie player) or media player. So I uninstalled the Nero, having issues with
getting rid of All the components - got more information from HERE, still
said "please insert disk", came back HERE and there were a couple other posts
to my question saying DO NOT do that.... hehehe novice worst nightmare...
So a few more hours trying to undo it, next day finally got the restore
to work, going back to before I ever installed the Nero software - before I
got the new drive. - still same message. I opened the computer and checked
for loose wires or anything that I may be able to tell was wrong, put it back
and still got the error message.
For the next few days I spent every waking hour searching for help, I have
talked to technicians, and I have been on every help site I can find - the
more I read the more issues I see it could be. I have read about codec issues
- driver issues - Registry issues (500 topics say buy a registry cleaner 900
say registry cleaners do NO good and can actually hurt) - program
compatibility issues - Dell issues - device issues - I've read about totally
re-formatting your hard drive (which I thought might not be a bad idea and
started the first process - only to find I can not back up to a CD nor a DVD
drive using the backup that comes with the XP, I have to Buy a program....)
Thought I would take a day break from all the stress and just try putting
my video on my CD, as movie maker says you can do - YEAH right....
After Many issues with that and more help reading (I tired the suggestion of
trying to split and save my movie in half or thirds for about 6 hours - no
luck) and reading on here and other sites about This New issue is where I
actually came across the format hard drive as mentioned above
Yesterday I tried pulling the DVD burner out and putting the original DVD
player back in - hoping to know where the actual issue was coming from - the
Device or My computer. As soon as I checked it (My computer - D drive) it
said insert disk (yes I had a disk in). so shoot it is My computer - Well Not
for sure --- my computer flickered a bet did some weird things and got stuck
on the DELL Blue page -- I had to actually un plug the computer. When it came
back on and I tried it again - wala - The DVD drive played the movie, stopped
the move messed around a little and all of a sudden a blue screen comes up
with a Bug checker code (including a bunch of symbols I do not understand
like upside down question marks) and says beginning dump of physical memory
etc.. Had to un plug power again, when I turned it back on it took like 5
minutes then another message error 10000005 BCPI (which I have Not looked up
yet)
THE ISSUE TREE JUST KEEPS SPROUTING BRANCHES....
All I wanted to do the first of July was edit and burn some home video's.
I am Sick of reading all the possible causes for something going wrong, I
just want to use my computer Not Fix it.
About the only thing I have Really learned so far:
* Video software Must be compatible with the Drive you burn it to (it Not
always is).
* You have to have a software program to burn it to a disk.
* Movie Maker will Not burn to a DVD drive (not so great burning to CD
unless you only want 1/2 a movie)
* Not all DVD players will play VCD (CD's you put movies on)
* Sonic (record now) is a VCD software - only
* You should not take for granted the person trying to help actually knows
what they are talking about.
* XP backup does not work - well maybe if have and still use a floppy
drive for back up.
* Registry cleaners are probable a waste of money.
* You NEVER find the correct Help the first time.....
i.e. XP sp2 Home edition, Dell Dimension 8300 (pentium 4CPU, 3.00 GHz
2.99 GHz, 1.00 GB RAM) NTFS system, free space 117 GB
Warranty expired in June.....
