I installed Vista Business from the DVD drive with no problems. Now
that Vista is running the DVD cannot be seen (in device manager or
anywhere). I can boot the PC off of the DVD without issue its just
once I start Vista that it cant be used. Anyone have any ideas.

TIA

Maybe the driver for your brand of DVD drive needs updating. Check with the
drive manufacturer for a Vista driver.

Hi,

Wasn't a driver issue (there were no problems under XP) I ended up
having to change both devices to cable select (they were previously
Master and Slave) and they both now work without having changed
anything else.

Hi,

Glad to hear it's resolved. It's not usually the driver error, it's the
registry entries discussed in the first solution about 90% of the time. If
changing the cable settings worked, then great!

Just a follow up on this issue. After working perfectly for nearly 3
weeks my DVD or CD drives stopped working. Looked in the device
manager and sure enough both were flagged as not working. I tried the
fixes in the support link shown above and still no go. Tried a few
other things and after about 4 hours of trying I finally gave up and
formatted the HDD and reinstalled XP. Both drives are functioning
perfectly. I will wait on loading Vista now until my next motherboard/
processor upgrade.
