" Windows cannot read from this disk, the disk might be protected. or it
could be using a format that not compatible with windows"
but the dvd cd is not corrupted, actually i tried like 3 original dvd cds

DVD drive is broke. I had this with a DVD RW after only a week. replaced
with another and all is well.

Don't assume it is broken.
I have exactly the same stupid error message with my external USB PIKaOne CD
burner.
For no reason it reported the annoying:-

"Windows cannot read from this disk. The disk might be corrupted, or it
could be using a format that is not compatible with Windows."

If I plug it into another machine it works fine.

The most irritating thing is that this burner will play audio CDS, will
allow me to rio audio cds and will even allow burning. It just WILL NOT
display/read any data files in explorer or at cmd level.

No one can help. I have tried everywhere. I am resigned to the fact that I
will have to reinstall XP. Typical !
