DVD Display problem

I need help please. I watch DVDs on my laptop but only on
the second try as I cannot get the monitor section to
stick on 1024 x 728 ? it's set permanently to TV monitor.
How can I stop this happening? When the comp crashes the
first time it displays "there is a problem with your
driver etc" but it came with the computer and I know
nothing about these things. Can someone help?
 
Might be the program you are using. Either try another
program or try messing around with some settings in the
program you are using
