DVD decoders?

Hello I have recently installed a DVD recorder- I already have a dvd
player- I am trying to play DVDs in the hope I will be able to copy
some titles I already own- however Windows Xp saying I do not have the
decoders for it to play on media player- I have searched but you have
to pay for the decoders-can any one point me in the direction of FREE
decoders please?
Many thanks- I have GOOGLED but no avail

A DVD decoder is something like PowerDVD or WinDVD software packages.
They often come included with the software of the DVD burner you
purchased, if they come with software at all. Did your DVD burner not
come with any software? I believe both PowerDVD and WinDVD have plugins
that you can purchase to plugin to your WMP to allow it to play DVD's.

Thanks guys- I bought the DVD burner from BigPockets and it didnt coem
with anything-can you recommend a site for the decoders?

btw I checked a couple of torrent sites which had decoders to download
but they varied from 200kbs to 10mb in size- which size would be
correct?
