Hello all,

I have a Radeon 9800 Pro and i cant seem to play DVDs on my PC.

I am certain i have been able to in the past.

I play EQ2 which has all kinds of problems with ATI drivers so i have
uninstalled and installed the ATI software numerous times.

I am currently running the Catalyst Control Center and the 5.2 drivers
(the most stable one for EQ2).

A round about way of asking. Is there anyplace on the ATI website that
i can download just the DVD Decoder? I have looked at the installation
CD that came with the card and i assume it is on there but i cant find
any way to just load it.

Any help would be appreciated.

Cheers.

Do you have any programs that are made to play a DVD?
If so which ones?

Luck;

The DVD decoder is the one piece of ATI software that requires you to have
your original ATI
driver CD in the CD/DVD drive when you update your ATI drivers.
So no matter what software you download from ATI, the DVD decoder requires
the ATI CD.
Is your Radeon 9800 Pro an "ATI" Brand card or a card made by someone else
that uses the ATI graphics chip?
If it was not made by ATI themselves.
Whoever made your 9800 Pro may not have included the DVD decoder software.
My HIS brand X1600 did not seem to come with the DVD decoder software.

The program is atiCDwiz.exe. If it isn't on your CD you can get it in the
MMC webpage(DVD Decoder). Also it may already be in C:\ati\support on your
HDD. I agree with Frodo's comments.

Thank you very much Frodo.

i will give this a try next time i attempt to update the drivers.

Maybe it would be best to install the orginal software on the
installation CD (including i am assuming the DVD decoder) and then
download the upgrade with the CD still in the drive.

Thanks for the info.

Cheers

No, it's better to do the online installation, but that installation
will require the original CD in the drive. No files from the CD are
actually installed, it's just used as a license verification.

There are two files that can be used, there is a short installer, and
there is the long actual DVD software subsequently downoaded by the
short installer, which can be downloaded and saved, but both will
require the original CD.

Best way to update.
Download latest drivers from ATI.
Uninstall old drivers
Then use Driver Cleaner Pro to clean out ATI software that the uninstall did
not get
http://www.drivercleaner.net/
Put the ATI driver CD in the DVD/CD drive.
Install the downloaded drivers
Software might ask where your ATI driver CD is, make sure it has the right
drive letter.
After install reboot.
After ATI graphics software sets itself up,
make sure the device manager has the correct monitor inf file for your make
and model of monitor.
Done.
