DVD Copies slow.... in XP

Even after enabling/resetting DMA, using 80 conductor bus, and doing all
stuff necessary, on all the above 20 combinations of motherboards/CPUs/DVD
Drives which I have tried, Windows XPSP2 copies Video DVDs much slower that
Windows 98SE on those same machines. I get upto 18 MB /second when copying
the files towards the end of the DVD in 98SE, but the same file copies at 4
MB/s in XP.

I tested the speeds both by timing and by using Total Copy Software which
displays the transfer rate. Most of the people are unaware of this problem as
Windows default copy dialog never shows a transfer rate...

Is there any solution for this problem ?

Most people are unaware because its not a common problem. I find my copy
time is somewhat faster when I switched to windows Xp and 89 wire cable (not
sure which of the two made the most difference).
You did not say how the drives were installed. Are the DVD drives master
and slave or two slaves?

try DVD software. Nero express or DVD creator are faster than the built-in
software for xp
the built-in software is ok of small size cd.

BTW, make sure your have plenty of free disk space for the drive the %temp%
points to. Furth more, make sure it is defragged. fragmented drive
definitely slow down the process.

also if your pc is older one with slow processor, writing DVD in xp can slow
down if you do other task at the same time.

with fast processor, I can do other tasks without worrying slowing or
ruining the burned DVD

I am very sorry that I forgot to tell that it's not only DVD to DVD copy
writing that is slow, but even Copy/Pasting a .VOB file from a DVD to
Harddisk is also slow.

A 4.7 GB DVD takes around ONE HOUR to get copied to HDD in XP, where the
same DVD takes just 8 minutes in Windows 98SE... This is the actual problem...

Please try this with your own PC. No one will be having a 98SE installed but
you can just time the duration taken by a DVD to get copied on to HDD and
think about the theoritical rates. If you want a datarate display, try Total
Copy, which is afree one and copies almost 10% faster than default windows
copy.
